They all were on family vacations on that days. One day after playing a game of golf, Pritchard and Bell returned home and found their children bored. So, they decided to entertain their kids.
They planned to play badminton but needed more proper equipment to do that. Then these two dads came up with a new idea to overcome the boredom of their kids.
Thus they start playing using random equipment, ping pong paddles, and a plastic ball. In this way, they improvised a new sport.
The following weekend, Pritchard and Bell tell McCallum about this new sports game.
The primary purpose of this game was to entertain the whole family by playing together. With time, these three dads created new rules to make it more interesting by getting ideas from badminton, and initially, they used a badminton court to play this game.

As time progressed, Players noticed that the ball bounced well on the asphalt surface, and its playability improved. Thus they dropped the net from 60 to 32 inches to make it more interesting. But it does not end there.
In 1967, the first permanent official pickleball court was constructed in the backyard of Bob O’Brien, the close friend and neighbour of Joel Pritchard. That’s the beginning of this sport.
